Confused about Domain Extensions? The original Internet extensions (com, net, org) are
Administered in the USA and reside on servers in the USA; The most remembered and automatically typed into the address bar; Definitively preferred by large business, tech companies and non-profits; Favored by search engines.
Other frequently-used extensions are those assigned to countries. They are administered by those countries and their servers usually reside in their respective countries. (e.g., US for the US, UK for the UK, De for Germany.) Every country administers and controls their own domain. .US is appropriate for governmental names (USFederalCourts.us) and personal email and web addresses of US citizens or companies with a US business presence.) From time to time extensions developing countries are heavily promoted by companies who have partnered with the country. e.g, .tv for the Island of Tuvulu, .co for Columbia, MD for Moldova). Usually, tech companies contract with controlling governments to use and promote the domain. I have never purchased anything other than COM, NET, ORG and my own country, US. I believe that, for appreciation, prestige and stability, these are the obvious choices.
